Munich's Federal Police Directorate confirms the success of family reunification
In a heartwarming turn of events, three children of Belgian and Pakistani nationality, aged 9, 12, and 14, were reunited with their mother after being left behind at Munich Central Station on Tuesday, August 26th.
The incident occurred around 1:45 PM at the East Station, where the central station is located. The children were unaccompanied after an ICE train to Frankfurt departed, leaving them in a difficult situation.
Fortunately, the Federal Police Inspectorate Munich, responsible for police safety and criminal investigations in Deutsche Bahn facilities and the largest German S-Bahn network, sprang into action. The service rooms of the Federal Police Inspectorate are also available at Pasing, Freising, and the central station itself.
The children were placed on ICE 624 for their journey to Frankfurt. Federal Police officers in Frankfurt met the children and, with the assistance of interpreters, managed to consult with the mother, who did not speak German or English. The mother, also of Pakistani nationality, was on the same train with their luggage when the doors closed.
Deutsche Bahn and the Federal Police worked together to organize the reunion of the children with their family in Frankfurt. The family was overjoyed upon being reunited, marking the end of a tense day for all involved.
The area of responsibility of the Federal Police Inspectorate Munich includes three of the four largest Bavarian stations. The office of the Federal Police Inspectorate is located at Denisstraße 1, approximately 500 meters on foot from the central station.
